Blink's main downside is lower video quality compared to Kasa, and the field of view is narrower. Kasa has 2K resolution on some models which is sharper ... If you have Alexa devices, Blink wins. If you want higher res, Kasa.

i recently bought blink doorbell & gen 4 camera on prime day, we set them up and havenโt had many issues thus far. however, the doorbell has the absolute WORST night vision and iโm wondering if itโs due to its positioning where my regular doorbell used to be ... due to recent activities in my neighborhood i REALLY want to have clear picture of anything going on out front of my house at night.
Despite it being wired, the Blink still operates on the battery ... There a lot of false positives that are probably caused by the Blink using a cheap PIR sensor ... The motion zones can only be blocked out as squares. Everything snaps to the grid and it's annoying.
Now that the 30 day trial has ended in my case, I see that I donโt have the ability to see clips of who might have come by or rang the doorbell during the day, despite having the Sync Module. When I click on a clip in the app, it says I canโt see it since I donโt have a subscription plan.
A few weeks back our blink video doorbell was set off by motion of a woman walking into the hallway outside our apartment door ... Since then I have noticed my entire blink system being disabled intermittently - for a couple minutes or hours in some cases ... Today the motion went off and captured a video of probably 1 second ... before it stopped recording.
โ What Works
- Simple setup process
- Works well within the Alexa smart home ecosystem
- Affordable relative to premium doorbell cameras
โ ๏ธ Worth Knowing
- Night vision quality widely criticized as poor
- Lower resolution and narrower field of view than competitors
- Cheap PIR sensor triggers frequent false-positive motion alerts
- Clip playback requires an ongoing subscription even with the Sync Module purchased
- Score revised from an earlier pass in this same correction sweep to accurately reflect the sentiment split above โ treat this as the current, corrected figure.
Real owner reports on the Blink Video Doorbell skew negative, with 4 of 5 collected mentions critical and one mixed. The most-cited issue is night vision, described as "the absolute WORST," alongside a narrower field of view and lower resolution than competitors like Kasa. Multiple owners flag a cheap PIR sensor causing false motion positives, and one report describes the whole Blink system intermittently disabling itself after a motion event, with recordings truncated to about a second. A separate complaint: even with the paid Sync Module installed, clip playback still gets locked behind a subscription once the trial ends. Reasonable for buyers who mainly want Alexa integration and daytime alerts on a budget; a poor choice for anyone who needs reliable night footage or wants to avoid an ongoing subscription.
