For me it boiled down to how portable the cameras are. Ricoh wins that. Really the only thing, in my opinion, that makes the Fuji something to consider are the film simulations

I like the grainy lo-fi look the binoculars gave you. Somehow, the suit the haze and dust of the desert and differentiate your images from digital look.

If I could only have one camera, and for your use case, I'd get the Fuji XE5 and stick the 27mm pancake lens on it... gives you the "colors, the depth, the overall aesthetic" you're after.

- IBIS is the transformative upgrade over the X100V — owners report sharp handheld shots at 1/4s to 1/8s. Low-light street photography without a tripod or flash is now realistic.
- Leaf shutter produces near-silent operation — discreet for street photography and documentary work where a loud mechanical shutter would change subject behaviour.
- Fixed 35mm f/2 lens forces deliberate composition that many owners say improves their photography — the camera does one thing and does it exceptionally.

- Availability is the biggest real-world problem — this camera launched February 2024 and has remained chronically backordered at Canadian dealers (Henry's, Vistek, Best Buy Canada, Visions Electronics) more than two years later. - Lens is the weakness in the weather sealing claim — the body is sealed but the lens is not. Full dust and moisture protection requires the optional adapter and filter, which adds bulk and a step before shooting in rain.
- IBIS added approximately 48g over the X100V — the camera weighs 521g and is no longer pocketable in jeans. A coat pocket or small bag is required.
- UHS-I memory card slot is a spec disappointment at 40MP — high-speed burst shooting and 6.2K video will buffer noticeably on slower cards.
