Love mine, but primary use is for reading, watching YouTube videos, movies when traveling, browsing Reddit/web, occasional video calls, and as a photo frame when not in use. For my use case it's perfect.

It's hard to swallow, but the Pixel Tablet was one of the first devices by Google that I cannot stand to use. The biggest deal breaker was the refresh rate. Even for those that aren't pixel peepers it is glaringly obvious. Even navigating around the UI you can tell that the tablet is slow. The UI isn't intuitive or new. It's been reported recently it is just old hardware in a large frame with a cheap screen. I guess I had my expectations too high, but I do regret purchasing it.

Why are the 7a and the Tablet same price in dollars but the 7a is £499 and the Tablet £599? It's a joke.

It's intended use wasn't really to be a gaming powerhouse right from the start. They wanted it to be a media tablet that generally remains docked for things like videos when guests are over. That's part of why they bundled it with the dock is because they weren't trying to sell it to people as a world class tablet.

Just to add to the pricing context, the pixel 7 runs ¥82,500 in Japan at full MSRP and retails for $599 at full MSRP in the US. Not that currency conversions and comparisons ever come out at 1:1 anyway.

I hope this means they're scrapping their gimmicky vision of a tablet just being a Google home screen. I know a lot of people love it for that, but people want tablets for notes, drawing, media consumption, etc. Your angle into the tablet market isn't to just become a digital clock/Google assistant. I want an 8-11 inch "Pro" style tablet (120hz, good screen IPS or OLED, pencil support, stock Android, long update lifespan). I think Google could also price it competitively, as they do with the a-series phones as well. I just hope (cope) that this cancellation is to make way for a more serious tablet development like this.
