We have had ours for 6 months and love it. We got a great discount on it so even if something were to happen at this point, I wouldn't even be annoyed.

The Next is an unfortunate machine, for sure, and we hear from many unhappy Next owners here on the sub. However, it is also the most heavily promoted machine in Nespresso's lineup and they sell untold hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of them. We do NOT hear from what are probably hundreds of thousands of satisfied Next owners.

DON'T buy a NEXT. Instead, but a Vertuo Plus -- same pods and brewing idea as a Next, same (or very close) price to a Next. None of the issues.

Same here. I got my Next with an aeroccino, 40 assorted pods and a $40 store credit for $140 Canadian. It's over a year old now and so far no problems.

If people spent 30 minutes reading reviews and searching for feedback on Nespresso machines they would know this and avoid the next.

Got mine on a seasonal closeout at BJs Warehouse for about $80 a year and some change ago. If it died today, I'd buy another one. I feel like I've received my money's worth at this point. Grateful to have not had any problems, except the turn and close takes 2 hands (my sister's does not but hers is newer and was direct buy, so). Could just be my carpal tunnel tho ๐Ÿ˜‚

DO NOT get another Next. The machine has a design flaw and it will ALWAYS break.

The Pop seems to have a better reputation (lately anyway) than the Next. Maybe the older models were more reliable. I have a Pop, 4 months old, so far so good.

I have one for more than 3 years and works great stil. The only machine that ever broke for me was Nespresso Expert.

This happened with mine as well. Try spinning and wiping out the part above where you place the pod in that punctured the pad. Then wipe out the spot where you place the pod in to get out any grounds. After this unplug and replug in the machine. Make sure the water is full and the water container is placed in securely. You need to feel the click. Also make sure when you close the top of the machine you get it too lock and close entirely. You may need to pull hard! Whenever my machine has the solid light one of these will usually fix it.

I have the issue of my brewing water spinner (idk a true name for it) getting stuck. If I use it daily I don't have a problem but if I wait a few days it will get stuck every time. It's easy to fix though once I initially figured out the issue. I use my finger or a spoon and loosen it so it spins again and it brews perfectly afterward. I have had no other issues with mine. (knock on wood) I love it!

โœ… What Works

  • Long-term owners (1-3+ years) report trouble-free use and would buy again
  • Ease of use and brew speed draw consistent praise across both positive and mixed mentions
  • The most common negative issue (a sticking brew mechanism) has an owner-documented fix, not just a return-it verdict

โš ๏ธ Worth Knowing

  • A recurring mechanical issue โ€” the brewing-water spinner or pod-puncture mechanism sticking โ€” is the dominant complaint theme
  • One owner explicitly recommends the Vertuo Plus over the Next at a similar price, citing fewer issues
  • Split evenly at 4 positive/4 negative of 11 mentions โ€” read as a divided owner base, not a clear defect pattern
ClearPick Verdict

The Vertuo Next splits evenly at 4 positive, 4 negative, 3 mixed of 11 mentions โ€” and one mixed comment names the reason directly: it's Nespresso's most heavily promoted, best-selling machine, so both satisfied owners and vocal complainers are overrepresented in what gets posted online. Owners with 1-3+ years of trouble-free use report loving it and would buy again; the recurring complaint from the negative half is a specific mechanical issue โ€” a brewing-water spinner or pod-puncture mechanism that sticks โ€” which several owners describe a working fix for (cleaning and reseating it) rather than a dead-end defect. Buy it for ease of use and brew quality at a reasonable price; know the sticking-mechanism issue exists and has a documented workaround if it happens to you.
