Best Lawn Mowers in Canada: Gas, Electric, and Robot โ€” Ranked by Real Owners (2025)

Best lawn mowers in Canada โ€” EGO, Mammotion, and more ranked by what Canadian homeowners say after a full mowing season.

Built from owner feedback โ€” Reddit threads, Amazon reviews, and forum posts. No brand relationships, no paid placements.

This guide originally set out to rank six mowers across gas, cordless, and robot categories at their top score each. Half of them โ€” the Honda HRX217VKA, RYOBI 40V HP Brushless, and Greenworks 40V 17" โ€” have zero verified owner mentions in ClearPick's data, which means ranking them as picks would mean recommending products on spec sheets alone, something this guide shouldn't do. This guide now ranks only the 3 mowers with real, if still thin, owner data: the EGO Power+ LM2156SP, the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD, and the Husqvarna Automower 415X. None has a large sample, and the Husqvarna's โ€” the largest of the three โ€” is also the most negative. The three zero-mention mowers are still worth knowing about on price and spec alone; they're listed at the end, clearly marked as not owner-verified, rather than ranked.

1. EGO Power+ LM2156SP โ€” best cordless mower, and the best-sampled pick here

The EGO LM2156SP scores 8.3/10 and is the top-rated, best-sampled pick in this guide, with owner mentions that lean positive: 2 of 3 are positive, 1 negative. One long-term owner reports the mower still 'works great' years in, and another disputes any power gap versus gas, saying they've 'never lacked power, even when tall and wet.' The one negative mention flags a real mechanical issue: the self-propel drive sometimes stays engaged after releasing the lever, making the mower hard to move, occurring in roughly half that owner's mowing sessions. At roughly $849 CAD, it's priced above comparable gas mowers, with the total-cost case resting on skipping gas and maintenance over several seasons.

2. Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 1500H โ€” best wire-free robot mower, on a thin sample

The Mammotion LUBA 3 now scores 7.0/10 (down from an earlier 8.0/10) on 2 verified owner mentions โ€” down from 4 mentions this guide previously cited, after an earlier correction pass. Its case is still built on RTK GPS navigation that eliminates boundary wire entirely and an all-wheel-drive system rated for slopes up to 80% grade. The 2 remaining mentions split 1 negative, 1 mixed, touching on themes like garage storage as a theft consideration and grass dampness limiting night mowing; some owners in wooded properties also report GPS position drift under tree canopy. At roughly $3,399 CAD, it is the most expensive mower in this guide by a wide margin, and with only 2 mentions this reads as directional, not a settled verdict.

3. Husqvarna Automower 415X โ€” the largest sample here, and the most negative

The Husqvarna Automower 415X now scores 5.0/10 (down from an earlier 7.8/10) โ€” the lowest of the three ranked picks, and it also has the largest and most negative owner sample: 5 of 7 mentions are negative, with 1 positive and 1 mixed. The pattern is consistent and specific. One owner found the back plate cracked "just from carrying it around" within a week of purchase. Another describes the mower failing to power on at all after winter storage, even after four days on the charger. A third couldn't find a replacement battery in stock and was left with a mower that "stopped working completely." Two more mentions describe accelerated blade and motor wear from resharpening and frequent direction changes. The one positive mention concerns the blade's 4-cutting-surface design. This is the largest real owner sample of any mower in this guide, and the score now reflects it โ€” down substantially from the spec-driven figure this guide previously showed.

Also in this category โ€” no owner data yet

Three more mowers in this price and power range have zero verified owner mentions in ClearPick's data, so they are listed here for reference rather than ranked. The **Honda HRX217VKA** (~$1,099 CAD, gas) is built around a GCV200 engine and a NeXite composite deck that resists rust and denting through Canadian winters on paper, but annual oil changes and stored-gas starting issues are real seasonal maintenance to plan for. The **RYOBI 40V HP Brushless 21"** (~$699 CAD, cordless) shares its 40V battery platform with RYOBI trimmers, blowers, and snow blowers โ€” a real advantage if you already own that ecosystem, but confirm it is not confused with RYOBI's separate 18V ONE+ line before buying. The **Greenworks 40V 17"** (~$399 CAD, cordless) is the cheapest mower in this category and the only one that includes battery and charger standard, sized for lots under about 1,500 square feet with no self-propel. None of the three has enough owner data yet to say more than what the spec sheet and price tag already tell you โ€” treat them as reasonable spec-based options, not confirmed picks.

Common complaints

Self-propel sticks in gear

When using using the self-propelled feature, sometimes it stays in gear when you release the lever. This makes it hard to move the mower. I have no idea when it will do this, but it does it about half the time I am cutting the grass.

Back plate cracked out of the box

I just bought a 415X earlier this week and already the back plate has cracked just from me carrying it around. Really like what the mower has done so far but I'm quite worried it's so fragile.

Wouldn't power on after winter storage

Put the 415X automower away for winter and stored it in a warm room. Everything was working as intended before storing it. Once Spring came around, put the basestation down and it showed green light so everything should work on the basestation side. Put the automower in and when I tried to turn the mower on - nothing. Left it to charge for 4 days, trying every day if it would start up but nothing.

Replacement battery hard to find

Hi! Im about to change the battery of my 415X. It was a pain in the a** to find an original one, cause they were out of stock for a while, and my mower stopped working completely.

ClearPick Verdict

With three of six mowers in this category carrying zero verified owner mentions, this guide now ranks only the three with real data โ€” and none of them has a large sample. The EGO LM2156SP (8.3/10, 3 mentions, mostly positive) is the strongest ranked pick here on both score and sentiment, with a documented but occasional self-propel issue worth knowing about. The Mammotion LUBA 3 (7.0/10, 2 mentions) is the more capable wire-free option for sloped or obstacle-heavy lots, but its sample is too thin to call settled. The Husqvarna Automower 415X (5.0/10, 7 mentions โ€” the largest sample here) has the largest Canadian dealer network of any robot mower but also the most negative owner sentiment of anything in this guide: reported build fragility, battery availability, and winter-storage failures show up repeatedly. The Honda HRX217VKA, RYOBI 40V HP Brushless, and Greenworks 40V 17" remain reasonable options on price and spec alone, but with zero owner mentions between them, none belongs in a ranked recommendation yet โ€” check back as real owner data comes in.
