I just received one as a warranty replacement and I am highly disappointed in this laptop. On paper the specs look amazing (ultra 7, 32GB RAM, OLED screen). However, I have run into the high idle temps (55 degrees C), thermal throttling issue (at one point got to 100 degrees C), and random freezes (probably temp related).

Owner of Core 9/32gigs here. This machine is really good and can get almost 5 hrs on battery when doong productivity work. She might be able to squeeze 6hrs from the 75Wh battery, depends on the system settings and usage. Laptop is super light, portable and charges quickly. Would buy it for 100% again. The Core 5 should be easily sufficient for marketing tasks, wouldnt be worried about that.

Thank you! I was noticing constant thermal throttling even during light coding/gaming etc, even though my laptop is a few weeks old. After reading this, I decided to swap the paste with some MX-6, and while mine did not look as dried out as in the pictures, it runs around 20C cooler now during equivalent tasks and the throttling is gone.

Overall nice sleek look and comfortable for light everyday usage for sure, but if you are looking to do actual work on it, I would not recommend. Battery life is garbage. Even when new, it gives me max 3 hours since full before I have to recharge it. Always have to carry the charger with me and when looking to work, its very inconvenient. I also know that this laptop is known for terrible battery life so keep that in mind before purchasing

The minute you say gaming its Zenbook forget the Mac although for student life day to day the Mac package is far superior. Thats it.

I can't thank you enough this actually worked on my Zenbook UX3405MA. The Ultra 7 would go upto 90 degrees on a new laptop while doing some moderate designing work but only when on charging. It would idle at 70 degrees plus which was still a huge concern as the aluminum body would get really hot.

I use Noctua NT-H1, which gives me an idle and basic usage temperature of around 45c to 50c with room temperatures between 27c to 32c. The FPS improved, giving me 5-15 more FPS with more stable performance and no more drops or spikes in FPS. However, during gaming, the CPU package can still reach around 85c to 95c, but it remains stable with no problems like FPS drops or lag as before. Overall, I'm very happy with it. My variant is Ultra 5/16GB. But... I think don't push this laptop for gaming. It's not build for that. I primarily use it as a working laptop for designing, working with documents, and sometimes editing videos.

If gaming is not a must then MacBook air is more than enough.. but gaming is there and if you are fine with rosetta or some other tools for gaming for mac, then fine, otherwise zenbook, with more ram and storage is a great option.

I mean if you're trying to game then the Zenbook but it also depends what games you're talking about. If you're just playing WoW or like a casual indie game the Macbook is fine. For music production though get the Macbook, you're just better off learning to live in that OS now if you're doing anything music related. It's been the standard and all the hardware and devs are almost solely focused on optimization for that OS.
