I recently bought a used 1/4" welded steel offset smoker on FB marketplace for a song and I'll probably never cook brisket on the WWPro ever again. 50% due to the price of brisket, and 50% due to the fact that I'll never achieve that flavor profile on my Pro, even with the smoke box.

As someone who used smoke tubes on my Traeger for years and now has a Pro 36...the firebox on the Pro brings way more smoke flavor than a tube or two...not even comparable honestly.

Got the WWP 36. Hopper endurance depends on temp. I've done 24 hour 275F brisket cooks and only needed to top it off at hour 16 or so.

I've got one. I don't think it can be matched by any other pellet grill. Go for it!

I have the 36 and I highly recommend it. I also have an electric, wsm, and offset as well. I would say the offset and wsm produce better overall results but the woodwind pro gets close, or at least close enough that with the convenience factor, it is my actual go to most regularly.

I like everything about my CC including the good veteran discount and customer service. I totally messed up one leg while assembling my DLX, called CC and they sent me a replacement the next day. Only disappointment is the grates. They feel cheap, and the $500 DLX and $1500 WWPro have the same ones.

I love my woodwind pro 36. I find the smoke box and the smoke control in the PID give you tons of options for smoke density and flavor. Personally, I feel that most people go different directions like the searwood due to it being a do it all, which I respect. For myself, however, my smoker is just for smoking and the woodwind pro does an amazing job.

I paid $800 for my CC WWP36. It's awesome, but not $2k awesome IMO.

I'm sure it's fine, but the ability to burn whole wood chunks sets Camp Chef apart from the rest.

Real time readings work. And you can change the temp or shutdown from the app. Alarms don't work.

โœ… What Works

  • The 10-setting Smoke Number system is Camp Chef's most compelling differentiator. Unlike most pellet grills where smoke output is tied directly to temperature, the Woodwind Pro lets you set smoke intensity independently โ€” so you can run heavy smoke at higher temperatures, or light smoke while staying low and slow. This level of control makes a genuine difference in the final product and puts it ahead of most Traeger models at the same price.
  • The integrated Sidekick propane burner is a game-changer for pellet grill limitations. Pellet grills struggle to hit the high temperatures needed for a proper sear, but the Sidekick's 900ยฐF capability lets you finish a brisket, chicken thighs, or steaks with a real crust without needing a separate appliance. It's genuinely useful rather than gimmicky.
  • WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity via the Camp Chef app is well-executed. You can monitor and adjust temperature, smoke level, and the Sidekick from your phone. Probe connectivity is solid and the app notifies you when target temperatures are reached โ€” useful for overnight smokes.
  • The Ash Kickin' Cleanout lever is a practical quality-of-life feature that Camp Chef patented. Instead of vacuuming out ash or scooping manually, a lever drops the ash into a removable cup below the fire pot. Combined with the pellet hopper window and heavy 22 lb hopper capacity, this is a well-thought-out grill to maintain.

โš ๏ธ Worth Knowing

  • At $1,299 CAD, this is a significant investment and sits at the top of the mid-range pellet grill market. The Traeger Ironwood 885 is a direct competitor at the same price โ€” the Camp Chef wins on smoke control and sear capability, the Traeger wins on software polish and brand ecosystem. Choose based on which features matter most to you.
  • Pellet grills require pellet management that gas and charcoal grills don't. You'll need to keep bags of quality cooking pellets on hand, protect them from moisture, and purge the hopper if changing flavors. Budget $20โ€“30 CAD per 20 lb bag for quality hardwood pellets, which you'll go through at a rate of 1โ€“3 lbs per hour depending on temperature.
  • The Sidekick propane burner requires a separate small propane canister โ€” it does not share the same propane line as your main fuel. This is an easy thing to forget to stock before a cook. Keep a spare 1 lb propane cylinder on hand.
  • Cold Canadian winters affect pellet grill performance noticeably. Below -10ยฐC, the grill struggles to reach and maintain high temperatures without using significantly more pellets. Camp Chef sells a thermal blanket accessory that helps considerably if you grill year-round.
ClearPick Verdict

The Camp Chef Woodwind Pro 36 is the best all-in-one pellet grill for serious outdoor cooks who want genuine smoke control flexibility and the ability to properly sear without a second appliance. The independent Smoke Number system and Sidekick burner genuinely earn their price premium over simpler pellet grills. At $1,299 CAD it's a significant buy, but buyers who use it regularly will find it's the last grill they need for years. It's ideal for enthusiasts who want to smoke, roast, bake, and sear all from one unit.
