Compare a 360 cam vs an action single lens cam has no sense. A single lens action cam always gives you more quality. Compare Ace Pro vs Osmo 5, this is another tale. By your request I supose that you are searching for a pure action cam. Then take Osmo 5.
Here where I see a good opportunity.. ND lenses since now we can replace them. But, Still no 10bit log or HLG. Low light seem better but will see real user experience
Disappointing! Its the same 1/2" sensor from X3 with combined 18mp from both lenses. The fact is that it takes 33mp to make 8K footage. They are leveraging less than one full pixel to map pixels to 8k using the quad bayer array. Its either gimmicky at worst or less than 10% improvement over X3 at best.
8k @ 60p would be instant upgrade material from X4 for me, but otherwise it seems just not worth it. I guess I will just use my safety lenses for one more year :)

I'm thinking this update was mainly for the folks who still have X2s. I was thinking about getting the X3, but this came out at the right time. I just went ahead and got the X4.
There's the new chip like the one in the Ace Pro, it is much more powerful and uses less power. The 5.7k to 8k doesn't seem like much but in reality it's 70% more pixels.
Most people really only want an ultra wide angle action camera and will end up not using the 360 down the line after it stops being new
I just recently made a switch to the Insta360 X4 and the 360° shots have eliminates the need for me to have multiple GoPro cameras running on the kayak to get different angles. ... The battery power for the X4 absolutely blows all of my GoPro cameras out of the water, and overheating has yet to become an issue! That used to plague me when using GoPros in the summer, but not anymore!
