I will - much better quality control mainly. By that I mean the chances of getting a bad one compared to Luna are much smaller.

I'd probably go for a concert-sized Makala Shark. The composite body should be harder for a 10 year old boy to destroy, and the investment is pretty low. The instruments in the Shark/Dolphin line get a nice radiant tone from the arched composite back.
