Kaspersky Total Security

Best for Business

Kaspersky Total Security packs more features per dollar than virtually any other security suite in Canada: real-time antivirus, a Safe Money isolated browser for online banking and shopping, unlimited VPN, parental controls with geofencing, a password manager, file shredder, and webcam protection. Consistently top-ranked by AV-TEST, Kaspersky is the choice for users who want a comprehensive feature set without paying premium prices.

Why in the world would you install an antivirus program on your SQL Server, uninstall that s***. Lock down your servers with ACLs (file shares, RDP, firewall, etc.) instead.

Kaspersky would be my preference here, you get the same or better protection while having lighter performance impact.

The biggest changes are they've removed 300mb cap from vpn and included cloud security in all of the new plans ... Total security is renamed to Premium, and Antivirus to Standard. The core engine is same for all versions now, even the free version, but more improvements in performance, interface and functionality.

Extra software bundled with AVs (password managers, VPNs, backup utilities, etc.) tend to just be rebadged software from somewhere else, and are pretty limited.

Kaspersky total security is an old and discontinued version. You should be buying the plus version instead

Last week i've installed a commercial version of Kaspersky Total Security 18 and since then i just can't do the syncronization ... I found out the syncronization program makes the connection to the DB via the serverip\instance and since i've installed Kaspersky i just can't connect to the BD via IP.

I got a nice deal on both for 1 year and 5 devices. It seems both are great and come with a password manager, which I'm interested in.

โœ… What Works

  • Core antivirus engine praised as lightweight with minimal performance impact
  • Rated competitively against alternatives like Bitdefender for base protection

โš ๏ธ Worth Knowing

  • This product line is described as an old, discontinued tier โ€” buyers steered to newer plans
  • Bundled extras (password manager, VPN) called limited, rebadged software
  • Compatibility issues reported with server software like SQL Server
  • Feature set has fallen behind Kaspersky's current-generation offerings
ClearPick Verdict

Mentions lean negative (4 of 7), and the biggest practical issue is that this specific product line is dated: one owner is told outright "Kaspersky Total Security is an old and discontinued version. You should be buying the Plus version instead," since Kaspersky has since renamed and restructured its tiers. A technical thread also documents it interfering with SQL Server database connections, though other commenters note that's really a case of antivirus not belonging on a server in the first place. Bundled extras like the password manager and VPN are called "rebadged software from somewhere else" with limited functionality. Where it's praised, it's for a genuinely light system footprint and solid core protection compared to some competitors. Only worth buying if you specifically need this legacy tier at a discount; most buyers today are better served checking Kaspersky's current-generation plans instead.
