I think it was a good deal. I was able to get it directly from Levoit for $165 ($177 with taxes)

The Core series do very well short term, but their motors are small and their filters are small. They run the motors faster to compensate for the size, and the filters need replacing sooner as a result. Some people have found that their capacitors wear out - but honestly I have had the same problem with two Winix units, so this may be an industry-wide issue with made-in-China units.

I have the levoit 400s and 600s. I won't be buying a 400s again unless it's deeply discounted.

the 600s is better than the 400s, giving 1.4 CFM per $, like the Core 300. 400s is 1.14 CFM/$, at least at standard prices. I have not priced in replacement filters. According to their Amazon pages, the 600s barely weighs more than the 400s too, though it's somewhat bigger in volume.

My 400s-p reads 1. Yours looks higher consistently. The sensors are crap but the graph helps give you a generalization of quality.

I bought a Levoit Core 400S. However, its PM2.5 value never exceeds 20. mostly between 10-4. I tested it with a candle and aerosol spray, and it went up to the 120s. Can I trust the sensor? I live on the 10th floor โ€” could that be the reason? Either the sensor is unreliable, or I wasted my money where the air quality is already good.

I was unable to connect my Levoit Core 400s to my home wifi. I have an eero pro mesh system. I disabled 5ghz wifi on the eero and it still wouldn't connect to the Vesync cloud. I even changed dns to [8.8.8.8](https://8.8.8.8) as the app suggested.

I bought a used Levoit Core 400s for $50. It was pretty dirty, but still usable. I took out the bottom filter section to try to access the inner fans, but I couldn't pull it out it's connected to the control panel with wires. Any tips for cleaning the inside where the clean air is output? I was able to clean the outside but the inside is still much dirtier than how it appears in the photos.

โœ… What Works

  • Delivered a reasonable per-unit price when bought directly from Levoit on sale
  • Physically compact and easy to place in smaller rooms
  • Basic air purification works as a HEPA unit when running

โš ๏ธ Worth Knowing

  • Value for money criticized directly โ€” worse CFM/$ than Levoit's own 600S
  • Sensor accuracy repeatedly questioned; owners unsure if PM2.5 readings are trustworthy
  • Wi-Fi/Vesync app connectivity failures reported, including on mesh networks
  • Smaller motor and filters said to wear out faster than larger models in the line
  • Score revised from an earlier pass in this same correction sweep to accurately reflect the sentiment split above โ€” treat this as the current, corrected figure.
ClearPick Verdict

Owner sentiment on the Core 400S skews heavily negative: 6 of 8 mentions are negative and only 1 is clearly positive. The most frequent complaint is value โ€” owners flag it as worse CFM-per-dollar than Levoit's own 600S and say they "won't be buying a 400S again unless deeply discounted." Sensor accuracy is a recurring second complaint, with multiple owners questioning whether the PM2.5 readings can be trusted at all. Wi-Fi connectivity failures (including with mesh routers) and small motors/filters that wear out faster than larger units round out the pattern. It's a workable purifier for a small room bought at a real discount, but buyers expecting accurate air-quality readings or trouble-free smart-home integration should look elsewhere or budget for the 600S instead.
