2000 dollars for a baby bed seems wild ... But yeah scummiest shit is the subscription for second hand buyers, essentially they are charging you for not paying them the ludicrous cost upfront. There is a reason people buy second hand and this will actually lead to people buying it less too when they see that its value will be alot less second hand and harder to sell too.
Look 1700 for any baby item is absurd, but there were nights where I would have paid 1700 just to get some sleep.
They have the option to rent for like $500 for 6 months. This thing is worth its weight in gold. It slept trained both my infants at 6 weeks. Imagine getting 6 continuous hours every night starting at 6 weeks. It even has a weening mode you use during the last month so transitioning into a crib is easy. All I'm saying is that I can put a price on sleep, and it's $1000!
Don't forget that people buy these second hand for cheap ALL THE TIME ... The whole thing is predatory. New parents are so tired and so overstimulated that they make very stupid decisions out of pure desperation to get some sleep. If you aren't wealthy (and just got a fat tax return), I can see someone making the investment after two months with a colicky baby. Boo to this company, boo.
If you have a newborn that isn't sleeping, that means _you're_ not sleeping. How much would you pay for someone else to do the rocking/soothing and let you sleep for those first six months? But also: we bought both of ours used and (re)sold them for exactly what we paid ... parking $600 in our nursery for 6 months at a time was absolutely worth it for us.
I tried both out and they seem to be working great! I did take everything apart and gave it all a good cleaning since it was pretty dusty, so they look better in the pics then at purchase. But still. Grateful!
While you have it apart you might look at the O rings on the bottom part. Ours stopped doing the motion to the full degree on baby #3 and after some YouTube searching found out it was worn out o rings. A kit from Amazon and about an hour of work and it was fixed. The hardest part was opening it pretty much to where you have it now.
