This company goes above and beyond. Mine broke physically, outside of warranty, my fault and they repaired it for free.

I have one that only works in a certain position - sent it in paid for servicing worked for a month or two, and back to the same. Not the typical experience, but they aren't BIFL in my book.
I have one of these, and a lot of people who come over love it and buy one too. Best gadget in my kitchen and well worth the investment.
I had one that i broke the battery cover. They had me pay a small fee for shipping and offered me a discount on any other products... This company rocks.
When they work, they work well. That said, I've had 2 of them fail on me in the last year.
I have one, and I have beaten it and broken the end off of it, and it still works great, and it is one of the most important tools in the kitchen
It is a very high end product. Made in England to exacting standards and accuracy... extremely fast and can be used to measure the temperature of meat at different depths, virtually in real time as it moves through the meat. This can easily perfect or save a $40 steak, an $80 brisket, or finicky meat like chicken.
Got myself a Thermapen One on sale a few months back as another option. Amazing devices that will last and stay accurate for years and years if you take care of them.
I dropped my not very old thermapen on the tile floor and the first digit doesn't display anymore. It's still quite usable though since it displays the last 2 digits.
The Thermapen is calibrated to NIST standards... I was on the fence for years until I found out about the NIST certification. That sold me. Zero complaints.
✅ What Works
- One-second readings are the single feature that separates the Thermapen One from every other instant-read thermometer on the market. Competing thermometers claim 2–4 seconds but the Thermapen genuinely reads in one second with no tricks. In the context of checking a steak resting on a cutting board or probing a whole chicken through the oven door, one second versus three seconds matters — especially when the temperature is still moving.
- ±0.7°F accuracy is the best available in any consumer-facing thermometer. The Thermapen One is calibrated to NIST-traceable standards and comes with a calibration certificate. For the kind of precision that distinguishes medium-rare from medium — a 5-degree window — this accuracy is genuinely meaningful rather than marketing spec-sheet padding.
- The auto-rotating backlit display is the kind of thoughtful engineering detail that makes a product feel professional. Whether you hold it in your left or right hand, at any angle above or below horizontal, the display automatically orients correctly. It also activates on opening and turns off when closed — battery management is handled automatically without power buttons.
- IP67 waterproof construction means cleaning is simple: run it under the tap, wipe it down, put it away. The 0.7mm probe tip leaves a minimal puncture mark in finished meat, which matters for presentation. The overall build quality — made in the UK — is noticeably better than any Asian-manufactured thermometer at any price.
⚠️ Worth Knowing
- At $129 CAD, the Thermapen One is the most expensive instant-read thermometer most home cooks will ever buy. It competes in price with dedicated leave-in probe thermometers like the MEATER Plus but serves a completely different purpose — this is your quick-check tool, not your cook-monitoring tool. Most serious cooks ultimately want both: a leave-in probe for monitoring and a Thermapen for verification and sauce/candy work.
- The Thermapen is an instant-read tool, not a leave-in probe. You cannot put it in food and close the grill or oven door. For monitoring a long slow cook, you still need a MEATER or ThermoPro-style leave-in probe. The Thermapen is the tool you reach for to spot-check, not the one you set and walk away from.
- A single AAA battery powers the Thermapen One, and ThermoWorks claims 3,000 hours of use per battery. In practice most home cooks get 1–2 seasons per battery. Keep a spare AAA in the case — nothing is more annoying than a dead thermometer during a holiday cook.
- The Thermapen One is sold directly through ThermoWorks.com and on Amazon.ca. ThermoWorks runs sales several times a year, particularly around major holidays and grilling season. If the price is a barrier, checking back around May or November can yield 20–30% off the regular price.
The ThermoWorks Thermapen One is the best instant-read meat thermometer available, full stop. The one-second read speed and ±0.7°F accuracy are class-defining, and the auto-rotating display, IP67 waterproofing, and made-in-the-UK build quality make every other instant-read thermometer feel like a compromise. At $129 CAD it's a significant spend for a quick-check tool, but for daily-use serious cooks it pays for itself in eliminated guesswork within the first season. The right recommendation is to pair it with a leave-in probe thermometer for complete coverage of any cook.
