I have the 40v carbon fiber power head. It's phenomenal, handles attachments better than the gas 2 stroke unit it replaced. Hedge trimmer, pole saw, edger, all run with no bogging down where the gas unit always struggled.

I have the cf trimmer and it's great( also own post hole digger, backpack sprayer, pressure washer gun, chainsaw, rototiller, canister vacuum, hedge trimmer,and fan topper). Would I today buy into Ryobi 40v with the current market competition? probably not, But if the trimmer includes a battery and you like the mower. You'll be happy.

40v is the way to go for outdoor stuff. The only 18v I still use is the hedge trimmer.

The change will be more noticeable if you experienced using a 18v vs a 40v. I used to have 20v DeWalt brushless string trimmer, not anymore, made the switch to 40v 15" brushless and it's a beast. Will switch it for a 18" head in the future though, I prefer more cutting swath than thicker line

Better? Sure, 40v brushless is undeniably better. But the 18v is capable for almost all needs. If you already have several 4ah batteries then the longevity of the 40v batteies isn't as big of a factor.
